Clemson Travels To Athens On Wednesday For Match With Georgia

Sept. 6, 2005

CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson volleyball team (2-1) hits the road for the first away match of the 2005 season on Wednesday, Sept. 7. The Tigers will face SEC rival Georgia (3-1) at 7:00 PM at the UGA Ramsey Student Center in Athens, GA.

The Bulldogs hold a 29-12 advantage over Clemson in the series score and edged the Tigers in a five-game thriller last season in the contest played at Jervey Gym. However, Clemson won the last match played in Athens, 3-1, during the 2003 season.

Freshman Jeannette Abbott leads the Tigers with 37 kills, while senior Meghan Stanton has a team-best .352 hitting percentage. Up front, Clemson has three players already with double-figure block totals, as middle hitters Danielle Hepburn and Meghan Steiner have 11 each and Abbott has 10 from the outside spot.

The Tigers opened their season last weekend and posted a 2-1 record in the annual Big Orange Bash with victories over Connecticut and Western Carolina. Georgia enters tomorrow’s contest with a 3-1 record and has won two straight home games as they defeated Georgia State and Grambling last weekend.
