Clemson Track and Field Teams Compete At Florida Relays

CLEMSON, S.C. – The Clemson men’s and women’s track and field teams competed at the Florida Relays Friday and Saturday in Gainesville, FL. Sheri Smith and Andy Giesler won individual event titles while the men’s distance medley relay team and the women’s 1600m sprint medley relay team won their events as well.

Sheri Smith led the Lady Tigers in the field events as she won the triple jump with a mark of 39’61/2″ and finished third in the long jump with a mark of 18’51/4″. Joana Costa also claimed a third-place finish, clearing 11’33/4″ in the pole vault. Katrina Moultrie competed in the long jump, finishing 20th (15’63/4″).

In the track events, Marcia Smith posted a third place finish with a time of 54.54 while Shannon Murray finished 14th in the 100m dash with a time of 12.58. Jennifer Meador was eighth in the 1500m run (4:49.98) and the 4x200m relay team placed third with a time of 1:36.73. The 1600m sprint medley relay team won that event with a time of 3:50.71.

Andy Giesler led the Tigers in the field events, claiming the discus throw with a mark of 166’11” and finishing second in the shot put with a mark of 51’21/4″. Matt Lombardi posted a third place finish in the shot put with a mark of 49’81/2″ and was fourth in the discus throw (150’4″). Brit Barrow finished second in the triple jump with a mark of 47’10” and was 14th in the long jump (20’33/4″). Tony Lloyd was third in the triple jump with a mark of 46’11/4″ and Rick Hill finished 19th in the long jump (17’111/2″). Terrance McDaniel also recorded a third-place finish, clearing 6’6″ in the high jump. Benjamin Hess was the runner-up in the pole vault, clearing 16’43/4″. Brett Varner finished fourth in the hammer throw with a mark of 178’6″ and David Schenek was seventh (169’6″).

Larry Griffin and Sultan Tucker each posted second place finishes in the track events. Griffin was second in the 100m dash with a time of 10.88 while Tucker finished second in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.20. David Collins finished 31st in the 100m dash (13.47) and Shauntae Lovings posted a tenth-place finish with a time of 14.89 in the 110m hurdles. Matt Thompson tied for sixth in the 400m dash with a time of 48.61 while Tony Washington was sixth in the 400m hurdles (53.34). Clemson fared well in the relay events, winning the distance medley relay with a time of 10:07.10 and finishing second in the 4x110m shuttle hurdle relay (56.71). The 4x1500m relay team placed third with a time of 16:07.55 while the 1600m sprint medley relay finished fifth in 3:27.37.
