Saturday, April 18 at 6 p.m. Sunday, April19 at 4 p.m. CLEMSON, SC – The ClemsonMen’s Tennis Team will play North Carolina in the opening round ofthe 51st Annual ACC Men’s Tennis Tournament on Thursday, April 16,at the Cary Tennis Park, in Cary, NC at 9:00 a.m. Clemson is seededninth in the tournament and the Tar Heels are seeded eighth.

The Tar Heels defeated Clemson in a close 4-3 match on Friday, April 10, at Clemson SC. With inclement weather in the area, the match was played indoors at the Hoke Sloan Tennis center.

Clemson has an 11-12 record overall this season and a 3-8 slate in the ACC. The Tigers are ranked 59th in the latest ITA poll. North Carolina is 15-9 overall and 4-7 in the ACC. The Tar Heels are ranked 35th nationally by the ITA.

This will be the 71st meeting between Clemson and North Carolina on the tennis courts. The Tar Heels lead the overall series 44-26. The first meeting between the two schools occurred in the 1931 season. The series is tied 7-7 when the two teams meet at a neutral site.

Over the years, Clemson has won 11 ACC Tournament Championships.

The 2009 season marks the 100th year of men¹s tennis at Tigertown. Clemson first sponsored men¹s tennis in 1910 when two Tiger tennis players entered the annual state tournament. The first dual match was played in the 1921 season as the Tigers defeated Wofford 2-0 on April 28, in Spartanburg, SC.
