Clemson To Play Host To Winthrop In Spring Volleyball Action

CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson volleyball team will hold its first match of the spring on Thursday as the Tigers will play host to Winthrop at 6:00 pm at Jervey Gym. Clemson compiled a 20-10 overall record in 2006 and returns 12 letterwinners from that squad.

The Eagles went 34-3 last season, winning the Big South Conference title for a berth in the NCAA Tournament.

Head Coach Jolene Jordan Hoover returns All-Americans Jeannette Abbott and Danielle Hepburn, as both are in just their sophomore seasons. Abbott led the Tigers with 497 kills in 2006, while Hepburn set a school record with 193 total blocks during the season. Both were also named to the first-team All-ACC, as well as the All-Region team.

Juniors Sue Eckman, Courtney Lawrence, Leslie Mansfield and Meghan Steiner are also back for the spring season, as are sophomores Laura Boozer and Katie Bridges. Competing in their first spring season competition will be freshmen Hillary Douglas, Didem Ege, Lia Proctor.
