Clemson To Play Host To ACC Cross Country Championships

CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson men’s and women’s cross country teams will play host to the Atlantic Coast Conference Cross Country Championships this Saturday, Oct. 27. The 48th annual running of the men’s race will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by the 19th annual women’s race at 11:00 a.m. The men’s course covers 8,000m and the women’s course is 6,000m.

In last year’s championship meet at Raleigh, NC, the Duke men and the NC State women claimed conference titles. NC State finished second in the men’s race, followed by Virginia, Wake Forest, North Carolina, Clemson, Florida State, Georgia Tech and Maryland. North Carolina was the women’s runner-up, followed by Wake Forest, Duke, Virginia, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Clemson and Maryland. Sean Kelly, a senior from Duke, was the 2000 men’s champion, and sophomore Shalane Flanagan, from North Carolina, was the women’s champion.

Clemson’s men’s team will be led by Scott Shaw, who has been the Tigers’ top finisher in every meet this season. Travis Alexander, Mike Barton, Mike Gunn, Jason Meany, Matt Pimentel, David Smith and Derrick Wyatt will also compete for Clemson.

The Lady Tiger cross country team will be led by senior Perry Fields. Fields was Clemson’s top finisher at the Clemson and Furman Invitationals. Renee Keydoszius, Evan Ross, Laura Ann Rukat, Lauren Saulino, Kristi Toothman, Tiffany Charles and Shannon Day will also compete for the Lady Tigers.
