Clemson To Face No. 7 Georgia In Men’s Tennis

CLEMSON, S.C. – The 40th-ranked Clemson men’s tennis team will host seventh-ranked Georgia Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center. Clemson enters Tuesday’s match against the Bulldogs with a 3-6 overall record. Georgia is 9-1 on the season.

After winning eight straight matches and posting an 8-1 overall record, Clemson’s doubles team of Eric Cohn and Darren Knight is ranked 23rd nationally. The Tigers’ Josh Goffi is ranked 61st nationally in singles and has played all of his matches at the number-one position. Georgia enters Tuesday match with six players ranked among the top-100 singles players in the nation including Bo Hodge and Matias Boeker who are ranked third and seventh respectively. The doubles team of Boeker and Travis Parrot is ranked second nationally for the Bulldogs.

Georgia holds a 33-11 all-time advantage over Clemson and the Tigers are 5-13 against the Bulldogs in matches played in Clemson. The last meeting between the two teams came in 1999 and was a 6-1 victory for the Bulldogs in match played in Athens. Both Clemson and Georgia advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament last season.

This season, Clemson has faced a nationally ranked opponent in each of its first nine matches. Clemson has wins over 39th-ranked Boise State, 38th-ranked Minnesota, and 35th-ranked Michigan. Georgia’s lone loss of the season came on February 15 against Washington in the ITA Team Indoor Tournament in Seattle, Washington.
