Clemson Tied for 9th at Rebel Intercollegiate

Clemson, S.C.—Sloan Shanahan, Lauren Salazar and Jessica Hoang all had rounds of three-over-par 75 on Saturday to lead the Clemson women’s golf team to a tie for ninth place after two rounds of the Rebel Intercollegiate in Oxford, Miss.    Clemson has a score of 600, tied with East Tennessee State,  after two rounds in the 18 team event that has squads from around the nation.

The tournament concludes on Easter Sunday at the par 72 University of Mississippi course.  It will be Clemson’s final regular season tournament before playing in the ACC Tournament in Greensboro, N.C. April 17-19.

It was a big day for Shanahan who is playing in her first tournament of the spring.  The sophomore was a first-team All-ACC golfer last year in Clemson’s first year of competition, but she has had an injury plagued second year.  Her round on Saturday included a pair of birdies, both on the front nine which she played in even par.

Hoang, who played the front nine in even par, also had a pair of birdies in her second round.  The sophomore had an opening round 74 to go with Saturday’s 75 and she stands in 29th place individually.

Salazar is Clemson’s top golfer for the first 36 holes with scores of 73-75 for a 148 total.  She is in 23rd place individually.    The native of California played the back nine in even par, the top score on that second nine among Clemson golfers.

Marisa Messana, the top freshman on the Clemson team this year, has had scores of 73-78 so far and is in a tie for 40th place individually.    McKenzie Talbert has had scores of 77-83 for the first two rounds.
