Clemson Swimming & Diving To Host North Carolina Saturday

Jan. 12, 2007

Clemson, SC- The Clemson Swimming & Diving teams will face a tough task in their second home meet of the season at McHugh Natatorium. North Carolina will be visiting Clemson for an ACC showdown Saturday. The Lady Tigers are 8-4 (2-3 ACC) on the season, and will look to avenge a 181-119 loss to the Tar Heels a season ago. Clemson’s women’s team is riding a six meet winning streak coming into the meet after defeating Davidson and Gardner-Webb on Thursday. The men’s team lost a close meet to North Carolina last season, falling 167-131, but are on a four meet winning streak of their own.

Both Tigers squads met with North Carolina once this season at the 2006 Nike Cup. The men’s team finished third with 605 points, while the Tar Heels finished in fifth place with 567 points. On the women’s side, North Carolina placed second with 711 points, just ahead of Clemson who was third with 604 points. Clemson has struggled all-time against North Carolina, with the Lady Tigers winning only 5 of the 28 meets against the Tar Heels. The men’s team is just 5-41-1 versus North Carolina, but do have a win and a tie in the last five meetings.

The meet time is scheduled for 11 am on Saturday.
