CLEMSON, SC – Clemson Head Swimming & Diving Coach Chris Ip has announced the signing of three athletes for the 2004-05 season. One men’s swimmer and two women’s swimmers will join the Tiger squad next year.
Sean Geary, a native of Andover, MA, will join the Clemson men’s team in 2004-05. Geary was the Massachusetts High School State Champion in the 500 free in 2002 and 2003 and holds the Andover High School record in that event. He was named the Merrimack Valley Conference Swimmer of the Year and was a member of the Merrimack Valley All-Conference team. He earned High School All-America honors in the 500 free and Honorable Mention High School All-America honors in the 200 free. Geary was a member of the Boston Globe All-Scholastic Team, the Boston Herald All-Conference Team and the Laurence Eagle Tribune All-Star team. He was a U.S. Open and U.S. Senior National Qualifier in the 800 meter free and has earned four varsity letters in swimming and one in track from Andover High School.
Houston, TX native Rachel McLaurin will compete for the Tiger women’s team next season. McLaurin was the Texas High School State Champion in the 50 free in 2001 and was the sectional champion in both the 50 and 100 free in 2003. She was a member of the All-State First-Team in 2001 and holds the Westside High School and Houston Christian High School records in the 50 and 100 free and the 100 fly. She was a Junior National, U.S. Open and Senior National Qualifier and earned four varsity letters in swimming, one in soccer and one in water polo in high school.
Bethany Meeuwsen from Zeeland, MI will also join the Clemson women’s squad in 2004. Meeuwsen earned High School All-America and All-State honors in 2002 and 2003 and earned All-Conference honors from 2001-2003. She was a member of the Academic All-State team in 2000-2003 and was named to the All-Area team in swimming in 2002 and swimming and water polo in 2003. Meeuwsen earned four varsity letters in swimming and three in water polo from Zeeland East High School, where her team won the conference championships in swimming and diving in 2001, 2002 and 2003.
