Clemson Swimming & Diving Team Announces 2003-04 Schedule

Aug. 1, 2003

The men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams’ 2003-04 schedule was released on Friday by head coach Christopher Ip. The Tigers will hold their home competitions in McHugh Natatorium on Clemson’s campus for the first time since Nov. 9, 2001, when the team played host to Florida. McHugh was closed for renovations following that meet and will reopen on Oct. 3, 2003 as the Tigers open their season against Louisiana State.

The Clemson men and women will both compete in 14 dual meets, the highest number for both programs since the 1988-89 academic year. That year, Clemson’s men had 15 dual meets, while the women’s team had 14. Both Clemson teams have an ambitious schedule that includes four meets with SEC teams. Clemson’s men will have six meets against ACC teams, while the Tiger women have five.

The Tigers will hold the annual Orange & White intrasquad meet on Oct. 11, before playing host to in-state rival South Carolina on Oct. 16 and Georgia on Oct. 18. The team will open the 2003-04 ACC season on Oct. 25 with a tri-meet between Clemson, Maryland and Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, VA. The Virginia Tech meet will not count in the conference standings as it will not join the ACC for competition until 2004-05. Clemson will travel to Charleston, SC on Oct. 31 to face College of Charleston in a dual meet.

On Nov. 1, the Tigers will take on Virginia in McHugh Natatorium. The Clemson women’s team will play host to Gardner-Webb on Nov. 7, while the Tiger men will take on Florida State on Nov. 8 at home. The start times for the Nov. 1 and Nov. 8 meets will be determined at a later date. Clemson will compete in the Nike Cup in Chapel Hill, NC on Nov. 20-22 and will travel to Boca Raton, FL on Dec. 20 to compete in the Florida Atlantic Winter Invitational.

On Jan. 3-4, the Clemson diving team will compete in the Georgia Diving Invitational in Athens, GA. The Tigers will travel to Davidson, NC on Jan. 10, where the men will take on Davidson and James Madison and the women will face Davidson and Richmond. Clemson will resume it ACC season on Jan. 18 against North Carolina in Chapel Hill, NC. The Tigers will play host to Georgia Tech on Jan. 24 in the final home regular season meet before traveling to Raleigh, NC for a tri-meet against N.C. State and Alabama on Jan. 31 to close out the regular season.

The Clemson women’s team will travel to Charlottesville, VA for the 2003 ACC Women’s Swimming & Diving Championships on Feb. 18-21. The Tiger men’s team will compete in the 2003 ACC Men’s Swimming & Diving Championships on Feb. 25-28 in Charlottesville.
