Clemson Swimming & Diving Announces 2002-03 Schedule

The Clemson men’s and women’s swimming and diving team’s 2002-03 schedule was released on Thursday by head coach Christopher Ip. Due to renovations of McHugh Natatorium, the Tigers’ home meets will be held at the Spartanburg Middle YMCA in Spartanburg, SC. The diving competition for home meets will also be held at an alternate site that is yet to be determined.

The Tigers will open their 2002 season on Oct. 12 at the Spartanburg Middle YMCA with the Orange & White Meet. Clemson will begin its 2002 ACC season on the road against Maryland on Oct. 26. The meet will be a tri-meet between Clemson, Maryland and Virginia Tech.

Clemson will play host to its first home match of the season on Nov. 1 against College of Charleston in Spartanburg. On Nov. 2, the women’s team will face California-Berkeley in Athens, GA. It will be the first ever meeting between California and Clemson in swimming. The Tigers will travel to Columbia on Nov. 8 to take on in-state rival South Carolina. On Nov. 15, Clemson will travel to Athens to face Georgia. Last season, the Bulldog women placed second at the 2002 NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships, while the men’s team finished tenth.

The Tiger diving team will compete in the Indiana Invitational on Nov. 22-24 in Bloomington. Clemson will travel to Auburn, AL on Dec. 5-6 to compete in the Auburn Invitational.

Clemson will resume its ACC season against Georgia Tech on Jan. 10 in Atlanta in a meet that will be competed at Emory University. The Tigers’ will then play host to North Carolina on Jan. 18 in Spartanburg. On Jan. 26, Clemson will travel to Charlottesville to take on Virginia. Clemson’s final home meet of the season will be held on Feb. 8 against NC State in Spartanburg.

The Clemson women’s team will compete in the 2003 ACC Women’s Swimming & Diving Championships on Feb. 20-22 in Chapel Hill, NC. The following weekend, Feb. 27-Mar. 1, the Tiger men’s team will travel to Chapel Hill to compete in the ACC Championships.
