Clemson Swimming and Diving Travels to Face Virginia

Oct. 29, 2004

Clemson, SC – The Clemson men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams will travel to face ACC powerhouse Virginia on Sunday morning at the UVa Fitness and Aquatic Center.

Clemson enters the meet with a 2-2 record on both the men’s and women’s side. In the first meet of the season, both teams fell at a road meeting with Florida State. The men and women each posted double victories over Duke and College of Charleston in the Tigers’ first home meet of the season, before falling last week to national power Georgia.

The Clemson men are led by senior Buddy Reed who posted two victories against Georgia. Reed was victorious in the 100 free (45.96) and the 200 free (1:40.77). Reed has now won six individual or relay events this season. The Lady Tigers are led by All-American Kim Routh who won the 1000 free against Georgia with a time of 10:03.55. Routh continues her impressive season as she has been victorious in seven individual events in three meets.

The Virginia women’s team is currently 1-0 on the season following a victory over Miami. Both Virginia teams will face Penn State on Saturday, marking the season opener for the men’s team. The men’s team is led by Michael Raab who was named ACC Swimmer of the week for the week of October 18 following his performance at the 2004 FINA Wold Championships.

Clemson hopes to reverse its luck in Halloween competitions. The Tigers are 0-2 in matches played on October 31, including a loss at Virginia during the 1992-93 season.
