Clemson Swimming and Diving to Participate in Georgia Invitational This Weekend

Georgia Invitational Schedule

CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson men and women’s swimming and diving teams will resume action this weekend as they travel to Athens, GA for the Georgia Invitational. The three-day meet will run from Friday Nov. 30, through Sunday Dec. 2, and will be held at Gabrielsen Natatorium.

This weekend’s meet will play host to several of the nation’s top-ranked teams. On the women’s side, Clemson will compete against second-ranked and host institution Georgia, 17th-ranked Northwestern, and 20th-ranked Minnesota. The Tiger men will compete against seventh-ranked Minnesota and 15th-ranked Georgia*.

The Tiger women are led by seniors Patty Hider and Mandy Commons. Hider leads the team in the 50 free with a time of 23.73, which she posted on Nov. 16, at South Carolina. Hider also posted this season’s third-fastest time in the 100 free at South Carolina with a time of 52.41. Mandy Commons leads the Tigers in both breaststroke events this season. Commons won the 100 breast against Florida with a time of 1:04.33 on Nov. 9, and she also posted a time of 2:20.73 in the 200 breaststroke on Oct. 27, against Virginia to lead all Tiger swimmers.

The Tiger men are led by senior Matt Wilson and junior Gregor Govse. Govse is undefeated in the breaststroke events this season. He posted a team-best time of 56.77 in the 100 breast on Nov. 9, against Florida and he earned a first-place finish in the 200 breast with a time of 2:03.11 on Nov. 16, at South Carolina. Wilson leads the Tigers in both IM events. He won the 200 IM with a time of 1:52.50 on Nov. 3, against Florida State and posted a team-best time of 4:05.00 in the 400 IM on Nov. 9, against Florida.

The Georgia Invitational will be the final event of the fall semester for the Clemson swimming and diving teams. The Tigers will resume action after the winter break on Jan. 5, when they travel to Miami, FL, to take on the Miami Hurricanes and the Rutgers Scarlet Knights.
