The Clemson men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams swept 12 events, and 17 different Tiger swimmers earned individual event victories as Clemson defeated Davidson 133-86 (men) and 127-87 (women) on Saturday afternoon at the McHugh Natatorium.
The Clemson men opened the meet by sweeping the 400 medley relay. The Tigers scored a top time of 3:34.40. Jordan Raynovich took top-place in the 200 free with a time of 1:44.20. The Tigers swept the 50 free as Brian Regone (21.80), Greg Middleton (21.98), and Brett MacLennan (22.00) were the top finishers.
The Tigers swept the 400 IM as Atilla Ruszka (4:01.15), Greg Middleton (1:57.05), Buddy Reed (1:57.26), and Jon Mengering (2:00.09) were the top finishers. The Tigers swept the 100 free with Matt Balderston (47.59), Taylor Thompson (47.93), and Jay Crout (49.03) earning the top spots.
Clemson also swept the 200 back as Atilla Ruszka (1:51.53), Jordan Raynovich (4:43.74) took the top three spots in the 500 free.
Clemson swept the 200 breast with Jay Crout (2:13.78) finishing in the top three spots. Clemson took the top two spots in the 400 free relay earning a winning time of 3:12.11.
Senior Eric Shulick won the one-meter diving event with a season-best score of 320.25. Shulick, the reigning ACC Champion in the one-meter event, set an NCAA Zone Qualifying score in the meet.
For the Clemson women, junior Nichole Carlton won the 1000 free with a time of 10:22.23. Freshman Whitney Sandison was victorious in the 200 free with a winning time of 1:56.96. Clemson swept the 50 free as Christine Anseeuw (24.82), Peg Carter (24.89), and Liz Guindon (25.70) took the top three spots.
The Tigers swept the 200 fly as Nichole Carlton (2:13.47) earned the top finishes. Clemson earned the top two spots in the 100 free, with Liz Guindon (2:14.95) secured the top three spots.
Clemson took the top two spots in the 500 free, with Sarah Cefalu won the 200 breast with a time of 2:26.19. The Tigers took the top two spots in the 400 free relay, with a winning time of 3:38.53.
The Tigers swept the one-meter diving competition, with Shastain Leathers claiming the victory with a score of 260.25, an NCAA Zone Diving Qualifying score. Jess Watcke also set an NCAA Zone Diving Qualifying score with her mark of 256.18. Emilie Wells won the three-meter diving event with a score of 190.20.
With the win, the men’s team improves to 6-7 overall, while the women’s team improves to 7-7 on the season. Clemson will return to action on February 16-19 for the Women’s ACC Championships and on February 23-26 for the Men’s ACC Championships. Both meets will be held at Chapel Hill, NC.
