Clemson Swimming and Diving Announces 2009-10 Schedule

Aug. 20, 2009

CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving team announced its schedule for the 2009-10 season on Thursday. The schedule will include six meets with ACC opponents as well as a three-day meet at Georgia Tech. The diving team will also participate in a three-day diving invite at the University of Georgia.

“Our teams are looking forward to a solid season,” says Head Coach Christopher Ip. “On the men’s side, our top 25 ranked recruiting class from last year has one season under their belt and the new freshman class will complement the program, filling any gaps we had last season. On the women’s side we have replaced our large senior class with a top 25 ranked freshman class. The women’s team is well balanced and up to the task of moving up in the conference”.

Last season the men’s team broke seven school records and the women broke nine. The women’s team also had four honorable mention All-Americans as the 200 freestyle relay finished 16th at the NCAA Championships. Clemson’s men’s team will be returning 38 of the top 41 times from last season, and while the women may have lost a large senior class they will be returning 18 top ten times in Clemson history and are bringing in a promising group of freshmen.

“Both the men’s and women’s teams have a great core of upperclassman returning that we are counting on as we build from within,” said Ip.

Along with the ACC competition, the Tigers will also take on rival South Carolina at home and will be traveling to Davidson and Florida Atlantic University. They have also set up a quad meet in Atlanta that will include ACC opponents Georgia Tech and Miami (women), and non-conference opponent Western Kentucky.

The ACC Championships for both the men and women will take place in Chapel Hill, North Carolina with the women competing from February 17-20 and the men February 24-27.

The NCAA Championships for the women will take place at Purdue in Lafayette, IN from March 17-20, while the men’s championships will be held at Ohio State in Columbus, OH from March 24-27. The NCAA Zone Diving Championships will be held at Georgia Tech in Atlanta, Georgia from March 12-14.
