CLEMSON, S.C. – The Tigers (2-0) opened up the 2025 spring season with a sweep as Clemson took down ETSU (0-1) and The Citadel (0-1) in their first home doubleheader at the Duckworth Family Tennis Facility on Saturday.
“Great time of the year for all of us to be back competing in dual matches,” Head Coach Brandon Wagner said. “Our guys did a good job today and are eager for the upcoming tests ahead.”
Clemson 6, ETSU 1
The Tigers started their season with a doubles win over ETSU. On court one, the No. 22 ranked duo, Max Smith and Noa Vukadin, defeated Peter Kalocsai and Martin Garcia-Ripoll, 6-0. The No. 105 duo of Marko Mesarovic and Max Damm handled Francisco Lamas and Juan Andres Listo with a 6-3 victory to secure the doubles point for the Tigers.
Vukadin opened up the scoring for the Tigers in singles with a commanding 6-0, 6-1 victory over Kalocsai on court one. Smith followed shortly after with a decisive 6-0, 6-1 win over Carlos Gonzales.
Sophomore Wissam Abderrahman battled against Pedro Cressoni on court three to clinch the match for the Tigers with a 6-3, 6-0 win. On court two, Viktor Markov took on Garcia-Ripoll and secured another point for the Tigers with a 6-4, 6-3 victory.
In his first match with the Tigers, freshman Edoardo Cherie Ligniere fought hard against Lamas but fell 6-4, 6-4. To finish the day, Mesarovic and Jaun Andres Listo took their match to a super tie breaker with Mesarovic outlasting Listo 6-1, 6-3, 1-0 (10-5).
Clemson 7, The Citadel 0
Clemson started off strong by swiftly securing the doubles point over The Citadel. Damm and Markov swept their match against Noah Van Dyke and Reece Beckendorf, 6-0. On court two, Abderrahman and junior Romain Gales quickly followed up with a 6-1 victory over Ted Bagwell and Tucker Hendrix to secure the doubles point for the Tigers. Wrapping up doubles, Mesarovic and Matt Pitts closed the door on the Bulldogs by beating Bradey Minnich and Nick Stroumpis 6-1.
The Tigers quickly jumped out to a quick start with a first set win on all six courts. Abderrahman began the scoring in singles with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Bagwell. Gales handled business on court three over Minnich 6-1, 6-1.
Mesarovic shuts down Beckendorf on court five 6-1, 6-0 to secure the victory for the Tigers against the Bulldogs. On court six Smith battled against Stroumpis to a commanding 6-0, 6-1 win.
In his first win in orange and regalia, Cherie Ligniere defeated Anthony Osipov 6-2, 6-0 to extend the Tigers lead. Finishing off the day, Markov takes down Van Dyke in a hard fought 6-2, 6-3 victory.
