CLEMSON, SC – Clemson University Student Government, the Clemson Athletic Department and IPTAY will hold Clemson’s first ever “Purple Out” at the Military Appreciation Day football game vs. The Citadel on Saturday, November 23. The goal of the “Purple Out,” which is a student-driven initiative, will be to fill Memorial Stadium with the color purple for the game against the Bulldogs.
The “Purple Out” is a concept that was generated by Clemson students, and is meant to represent the great significance the color purple has to the United States Military and Clemson University. It is symbolic of the courage and sacrifice possessed by those recipients of the Purple Heart award. Holding a “Purple Out” for Clemson’s Military Appreciation Day football game will allow the Clemson community to show its support of the University’s military tradition and the United States Armed Forces.
Exclusive 2013 “Purple Out” t-shirts, which will be the official t-shirt of the 2013 Military Appreciation Day, will be available for sale beginning Friday, August 16 at the Official Online Store of ClemsonTigers.com.
“Purple Out” t-shirts will also be available at the following retailers: apparel stores at Memorial Stadium, the Barnes & Noble bookstore on the Clemson campus, The Tiger Sports Shop and The Athletic Department Retail store in Clemson, Mr. Knickerbockers in Clemson, Courtyard by Marriott in Clemson, Palmetto Moon in Greenville and select local Target stores. Additional retail outlets will announced in the near future.
In addition to the t-shirts sold at the above retailers, 12,000 shirts will be placed at the 12,000 seats set aside for Clemson students in Memorial Stadium on gameday when the Tigers face the Bulldogs on November 23.
Clemson University Student Government, the Clemson Athletic Department and IPTAY are proud to partner with Knights Apparel, a South Carolina-based business and owner of the Alta Gracia brand, for the production of these shirts. The Alta Gracia factory, located in Villa Altagracia, Dominican Republic, is making a difference in the lives of its workers by paying every worker a living wage, which equates to 3.5 times the minimum wage in the Dominican Republic. It is the only factory in the developing world to meet this standard and thus be certified by the Workers Rights Consortium.
Fans will be asked to wear purple to the November 23 football game in support of the “Purple Out,” however, the Clemson Athletic Department would like to remind fans that they are still encouraged to wear orange to show support for the Tigers at all other football games, and all Clemson athletic events throughout the year.
