Clemson Set for UNF Spring Break Invite Friday

CLEMSON, S.C. – The Clemson track & field team is set to compete at the University of North Florida’s Spring Break Invite Friday, March 23. The meet takes place at the Osprey’s Hodges Stadium in Jacksonville, Florida, is set to kick off at 10 a.m., with the women’s hammer, while the first running event is slated for 12:30 p.m., with the women’s 4x100m relay. Participating teams include Princeton, DePaul, Marquette, Central Arkansas, Boston College, Jacksonville and others from throughout the Southeast.

The Tigers saw a handful of impressive performances at last weekend’s meet in Charlotte Friday and Saturday. On Friday, the hurdles unit shined as Kirk Lewis (14.07) won the 110mH, while the women placed three – Ebony Williams, Markeeta Thomas and Sidney Marshall – in the top-4 in the 100mH. Williams won the event with a time of 13.75 seconds, while Thomas (14.04) and Marshall (14.17) placed third and fourth, respectively. Additionally, Kendra Clarke impressed both days, winning the women’s 400m dash in her first outdoor event in a Clemson uniform with a time of 51.07 seconds. On Saturday, the junior transfer helped the Tigers’ 4x400m relay team (3:42.93) place second overall, and finished fourth in the 200m dash, tying the second-best time of her career – 24.18 seconds.

Despite resting performers who qualified for the 2018 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championship meet last weekend, the Tigers tallied a combined seven top-25 outdoor marks in the NCAA. Lewis’s time in the 110mH is Clemson’s top national mark at No. 7.

Live results will post to clemsontigers.com as soon as they become available.
