Clemson Remains 4th at Carpet Capital Classic

Clemson, SC – D.J. Trahan fired his second straight round of 69 on Saturday to lead Clemson to a fourth place ranking after 36 holes of the 54-hole Carpet Capital Classic in Dalton, GA. The Tigers have a team score of 579, 17 strokes behind first place Georgia Tech. The tournament concludes on Sunday.

Trahan has a 138 score after two rounds, one shot behind leader Troy Matteson of Georgia Tech. Trahan’s round of 69 on Saturday included an eagle on the 15ht hole and a birdie on the 16th, leading to a score of 33 on the back nine.

Greg Jones provided outstanding support for Trahan. The sophomore also shot a 69 on Saturday. He started with consecutive birdies on the first two holes and finished with consecutive birdies on the last two holes. He stands in a tie for eighth place with a 142 score heading into the final day.

Matt Hendrix also started the round with a pair of birdies and finished with an even par 72. He has a 148 score through two rounds, good enough for 28th place. He had played the final four holes on Friday in six over par, but was even for those four holes on Saturday.

Senior Tripp James was two under par through 12 holes on Saturday after consecutive birdies on 9, 10 and 11, but he double bogeyed the 12th and triple bogeyed the 13th on the way to a second round 75. James stands at 153, tied for 46th. Martin Catalioto shot a 77 on Saturday and is also at 153.

Georgia Tech has the team lead with a 562 score, 14 under par. Tennessee is second at 572, while Wake Forest is third at 575. Clemson is fourth at 579, while Georgia is fifth at 589.
