Clemson Qualifies Four Individuals Plus Relay Team For NCAA Championships

AMES, IA – The Clemson men’s track and field team qualified four individuals and the 4x400m relay team for the NCAA Indoor Championships to be held Mar. 14-15 in Fayetteville, AR. Roy Cheney, Michael Bolling, Cheney and Spain each posted qualifying marks for this year’s championships at the Iowa State Last Chance meet held this weekend.

In the 60m, Griffin posted a season-best and personal-record time of 6.66 to qualify for the event at the NCAA Championships. Cheney tied his season-best time in the 60m hurdles with a time of 7.92. Harper clocked a season-best time of 21.11 in the 200m, also a provisional time. Spain qualified in the 400m with a time of 46.63. The Tigers’ 4x400m relay team posted a provisional qualifying time of 3:07.86 to advance to the NCAA Championships.

At the Notre Dame Alex Wilson Invitational, the Tigers’ distance medley relay team of Mike Barton, Garrick Copes, Marcus Hodge and Scott Shaw set a season-best time of 9:54.01 in the event. Meany and Magidi competed in the 5000m. Meany placed seventh with a time of 14:28.39, and Magidi was 10th in 14:37.61. Scott Shaw posted a time of 4:12 in the mile, and Marcus Hodge ran a 1:52 in the 800m.

The Tigers will travel to Fayetteville, AR, to compete at the 2003 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships on Friday and Saturday, Mar. 14-15.
