CLEMSON, SC – First-round draft pick Trevor Booker is among four former Clemson players on NBA summer league rosters this month. Booker, who was chosen with the 23rd overall selection by the Washington Wizards, is off to a good start with the 2-0 Washington Wizards in the Las Vegas Summer League.
Booker is 8-8 from the field in two games with the Wizards, averaging 8.5 points and 3.5 rebounds per game. He also has averaged 2.0 steals and 1.5 blocked shots per game, both figures that rank among the top 20 of all players competing in Las Vegas.
In the Wizards’ first game against Golden State, he went for nine points on 4-4 field goals and added three rebounds and three steals. In the second game against the Los Angeles Clippers, he posted eight points and four rebounds. He delivered a steal and ran the length of the floor for a breakaway dunk, followed by an alley-oop dunk courtesy of No. 1 overall pick John Wall, both in the third quarter of the Wizards’ second game.
Booker and the Wizards return to action on Thursday at 8:00 PM (ET) to face the Dallas Mavericks. On Friday, Booker’s team will take on the New Orleans Hornets at the same start time. The Wizards conclude the summer league with a 4:00 PM game on Saturday versus the New York Knicks.
Cliff Hammonds played in three of five games for the Oklahoma City Thunder last week in the Orlando Summer League. Hammonds, who played with the Tigers from 2004-08, made the top 10 plays on ESPN’s SportsCenter after blocking 6-foot-11 Magnum Rolle of the Indiana Pacers in their final game of the summer league. Hammonds averaged 3.7 points and 2.0 rebounds per game, while playing 17 minutes per contest for the Thunder in their final three games.
James Mays (2004-08) and Raymond Sykes (2005-09) were named to summer league rosters for Indiana and Miami, respectively. Mays did not appear in a game for the Pacers in the Orlando league, while Sykes has yet to participate in two contests with the Heat in Las Vegas.
