Clemson Moves Up to 11th in GolfWorld Coaches Poll

CLEMSON, SC – Clemson’s women’s golf team has gone from unranked in the preseason to 11th in the nation according to the latest GolfWorld Coaches poll.  Clemson has 275 poll points to rank 11th overall, second best among ACC schools.  Duke, ranked fourth, is the highest rated school from the ACC according to the poll.

Clemson was the only school in the nation to go from being unranked in the preseason to the top 20 in the second poll.

Clemson has finished second in each of its first two tournaments, the Cougar Classic in Charleston, SC September 8-10 and second at the Lady Paladins Invitational at Furman last weekend.  Twelve of the 20 schools in the Cougar Classic went to the NCAA Tournament last year.

J.T. Horton‘s team has been led by Ashlan Ramsey and Sloan Shanahan.  Ramsey won the Furman Invitational by three shots with a tournament record seven under par score of 209.  She also finished second at the Cougar Classic.  Shanahan tied for second at the Cougar Classic with Ramsey and finished third at Furman.  The freshmen are a combined 18 under par through two tournaments so far.

Southern California, the defending NCAA Champion, is ranked number-one in the latest poll.  Alabama is second followed by Oklahoma, Duke and Florida. Oklahoma State is sixth, followed by UCLA, Arkansas, Arizona State and Arizona.  Clemson leads the second 10, followed by Stanford, Washington, NC State and North Carolina.

Clemson’s next action will be at the Ruth’s Chris Tar Heel Invitational in Chapel Hill October 11-13.  That will be the first time Clemson plays in the same tournament with Duke and North Carolina.  Overall the ACC has five of the top 16 teams in the nation.
