Clemson, SC – Ben Duncan fired a three-under-par 69, while teammates D.J. Trahan and Jack Ferguson added rounds of 70 to lead Clemson to a six-under team total of 282 and a second place standing heading into the final round of the Carpet Classic in Dalton, GA. The final round will be held Sunday on the par 72 course known as The Farm.

Clemson trails Florida by seven strokes heading into the final round. The Gators stand at 14-under par as a team through two rounds at 562. Clemson is second at 569, while UNLV is third at 572.

While Clemson’s 282 final score was one of the best of the day by any team, Clemson actually had its score 11-under-par for the day through 12 holes and had a two stroke lead over Florida. Clemson played the last six holes as a team five over par, while Florida went four-under for its final six holes. Clemson has now shot under par as a team all five rounds so far this season.

Duncan was Clemson’s top golfer with a consistent 69. He had four birdies and one bogey and now stands in ninth place entering the final round with a 142 score. Duncan, a senior from Greenville, has never had a top 10 finish in his Clemson career.

Trahan had nine pars on the front nine, then recorded birdies on 10, 11 and 12, a par four, three and five, respectively. He made a double bogey on the 14th, then had a birdie coming in to shoot 70. Trahan stands at even par for the two rounds, 144.

Ferguson made the biggest improvement from day one with his two-under par 70. He had scored a 76 in the first round, worst among the Clemson players. His round on Saturday included three birdies and a bogey. He now stands at two over par for the tournament.

Matt Hendrix shot a one over par 73 on Saturday, but combined with his opening round 69, he is still ranked in the top 10 for the event with a two-under par total of 142. Gregg Jones shot a 73 on Saturday, including a 34 on the back.
