Clemson Coach Jack Leggett

“I was very pleased with how we played all weekend long. Today, I thought we did a real nice job pitching. Once we got past the first inning I thought Jarrod Schmidt settled in a did a nice job. We played excellent defense, and offensively we put pressure on them every inning.

Middle Tennessee is a good baseball team. I felt like it was going to be a close game from the beginning. We got some breaks early on and wore them down later on in the game. We are real pleased to win the regional and looking forward to the next step. I feel like the ultimate goal for us is to get to Omaha. This was a big step in the right direction.

I absolutely believe we deserve to host a super regional. We took care of our business this weekend and I think we will host a super regional. The way things have worked out in the past, the higher seeds have hosted the super regionals. The reason they seed the top eight teams is to help decide who will host the super regionals and I believe with our seeding we deserve to host one.”

Middle Tennessee Coach Steve Peterson

“The best team won this region and it does not bother me to say that. You play the games to decide which is the best team and Clemson was the best team in this regional.

We had to have strarting pitching coming into this first game but we just did not get it. We threw some guys that have not thrown much this year but I knew in the back of my mind that if we started getting beat up on the mound then we were in trouble.

We will put this game behind us and we are very proud of what we have done this year. What happened today is just part of baseball. It is a shame that this had to happen in our last game of the season, but our guys have nothing to be ashamed of and they will get over this.”
