May 13, 2005

CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson men’s track and field team will compete at the Georgia Tech Invitational this weekend in Atlanta, GA. It will be the final regular season meet for the Tigers, and the final opportunity to qualify for the East Region Championships. Fourteen Tigers have already posted qualifying marks, and will use this weekend as a final tune-up leading to the region meet and NCAA Championships.

Ronald Richards has qualified for the region meet in three events, the 100m dash, 200m dash and as a member of the Tigers’ 4x100m relay team. George Kitchens is a two-event qualifier, as he will compete in the long jump and 100m dash. Rashad Gardner has qualified in both the 110m hurdles and the 400m hurdles, while Roy Cheney will compete in the 110m hurdles and as a member of the 4x100m relay team. Derek Gilson is also a two-event qualifier, as he has met the qualifying standard in the shot put and discus throw. Itay Magidi, a 2003 NCAA All-American in the 3000m steeplechase, has posted a qualifying time in that event, and Lydell Perry is a regional qualifier in the 110m hurdles. Michael Bolling joined the list of qualifiers last weekend, as he met the qualifying standard in his first 400m hurdles race of the season. Robert Ibeh runs third leg on the Tigers’ 4x100m relay team and will advance to the region meet. Jason Bell, an indoor NCAA qualifier, has also qualified for the East Region Championships in the triple jump, while sophomore Adam Linkenauger, a four-time champion in the high jump, will compete in that event. Mitch Greeley will become the second Clemson pole vaulter to compete at the regional level, and Danny Alge will compete in the hammer throw.
