Clemson Men’s Track And Field Team Concludes Day One At ACC Championships

CHAPEL HILL, NC – The Clemson men’s track and field team concluded day one of competition at the 2005 ACC Indoor Track and Field Championships tied for fourth place after one event. The Tigers scored five points in the weight throw, as Danny Alge and Derek Gilson placed fifth and eighth, respectively. Alge posted a mark of 56’8″ in the weight throw, his second-best performance of the season, to finish fifth with four points. Gilson recorded a throw of 54’5.25″ to score one point for Clemson in his first weight throw competition of the season.

After the first day of competition in the heptathlon, Clemson’s Brent Hobbs leads the field with 3,073 points. Ryan Koontz totaled 2,673 points to finish in fifth after day one, and Kyle Shaw is in sixth place with 2,620 points.

Hobbs placed third in the first event of the day, the 60m dash, with a time of 7.10. Teammate Kyle Shaw placed fourth in 7.31 and Ryan Koontz was sixth with his time of 7.48. In the long jump, Hobbs again led Clemson with a mark of 22’6.25″ to finish second in the event. Koontz posted a mark of 20’10.75″ for sixth place and Shaw recorded a leap of 20’9″ for eighth place in the long jump. Hobbs claimed the shot put event with a mark of 46’1.25″ to take the lead in the heptathlon competition. Shaw recorded a mark of 37’10” to finish sixth in the event, and Koontz posted a mark of 36’1.5″ for 10th place. In the high jump, Koontz cleared 6’4″ to tie for third in the event. Hobbs posted a mark of 6’2.75″, good for a tie for fifth, and Shaw had a clearance of 5’10” to place 10th.

The heptathlon concludes on Friday with the 60m hurdles, pole vault and 1000m run.
