Clemson Men’s Track And Field Finishes Second At ACC Indoor Championships

CHAPEL HILL, NC – The Clemson men’s track and field team finished second at the ACC Indoor Championships held this weekend at the Eddie Smith Field House. The Tigers tallied 160 points, just 2.5 points shy of Florida State’s winning total. It was the closest finish to a men’s ACC Indoor Championship since 1996 when North Carolina edged NC State by one point (148.5 to 147.5). Adam Linkenauger captured the high jump competition, and the Tigers finished second in five other events on Saturday.

On the track, Tye Hill finished second in the 60m dash to earn All-ACC honors with his time of 6.76. Ronald Richards placed fourth in the event (6.81) and George Kitchens recorded a time of 7.06 to finish seventh in the 60m. Richards led the Tigers in the 200m, finishing second with a provisional qualifying time of 21.44. Hill placed fifth with a season-best time of 21.89, George Kitchens posted a time of 22.84 to finish eighth. In the 400m, Michael Bolling and Michael Bolling, Roy Cheney and Darius Acker finished second with a time of 3:16.04.

Linkenauger cleared 6’11.75″ and won a jump-off to claim his second consecutive ACC crown in the high jump. Arthur Hinton scored for the Tigers in the high jump with a fifth-place finish and season-best mark of 6’9.75″. Jason Bell was an All-ACC performer in the triple jump with his provisional qualifying mark of 51’1.75″ and second-place finish. Mickey Sheats placed fifth with a mark of 48’9.5″. Derek Gilson was a scorer in the shot put with a throw of 57’6.25″ and a sixth-place finish.

The Tiger track and field team returns to competition next weekend as they host the Clemson Classic on Feb. 26.
