Clemson Men’s Track And Field Completes Day One Of Hurricane Decathlon

CORAL GABLES, FL – Three members of the Clemson men’s track and field team have completed competition on day one of the Miami Hurrican Decathlon Invitational. Ryan Koontz, Brent Hobbs and Ryan Hunter are in third, fourth and seventh place, respectively, following completion of the first five events.

Koontz is leading the Tigers and is in third place overall with 3,740 points. The sophomore from Statesboro, GA, ran a time of 11.23 in the 100m dash, finishing fifth in the field. Koontz clocked a 50.40 in the 400m dash to finish fourth, then cleared 6’7″ in the high jump to finish second in that event. Koontz placed fourth in the long jump with a mark of 21’6.75″, then threw 39’5.25″ in the shot put.

Hobbs tallied 3,726 points on the first day of the decathlon to place fourth. The sophomore from Stony Point, NY, opened competition with a time of 11.27 in the 100m dash. He recorded a time of 52.61 in the 400m dash, and cleared 6’1.25″ in the high jump. Hobbs won the long jump with a mark of 23’10” and was second in the shot put with a throw of 42’10.75″.

Hunter, a senior from Easley, SC, is seventh overall with 3,480 points. He recorded a time of 11.28 in the 100m dash, and ran a time of 51.97 in the 400m dash. In the high jump, Hunter cleared 5’9.75″ and recorded a mark of 21’6″ in the long jump. Hunter posted a mark of 41’5″ in the shot put to finish fifth in that event.
