Clemson Men?s Tennis To Open Fall Tennis Season Friday in Athens, GA

CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson men’s tennis team will open the fall segment of its season Friday at the Southern Intercollegiate Championships in Athens, GA.  The tournament will run through Monday.  The Tigers are scheduled to enter 10 players in the individual tournament.The 2013 tournament features participants from 28 schools: Alabama, Armstrong Atlantic, Barry University, Charlotte, Clemson, College of Charleston, East Tennessee State, Florida Atlantic, Furman, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Georgia Gwinnett College, Georgia Southern, Kentucky, Lander, Liberty, Mercer, Murray State, Portland, South Florida, Stetson, Tennessee, Tennessee Tech, UAB, UCF, Vanderbilt, Virginia and Winthrop.The field will be divided into three singles divisions and two doubles divisions, and there will be a champion from each division.Last season, Clemson advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.  The Tigers finished 21st in the final ITA poll.   Clemson returns three starters from last year’s team.In the 2013-14 preseason poll, Clemson’s Hunter Harrington and the doubles team of Dominique Maden and Luke Johnson are ranked in the preseason Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) poll.Harrington is ranked 68th in the singles poll and the doubles team of Maden and Johnson are ranked 37th. Harrington, a native of Spartanburg, SC, finished the 2012-13 with a 21-9 record overall and a 17-6 mark in dual matches.  Last season, the junior played at number-two singles. Dominique Maden was a doubles All-American in 2012-13 along with his brother Yannick Maden, who has since graduated.  Dominique Maden is a senior this season, and Johnson, a transfer from the University of Florida,will be a sophomore.
