Clemson Men’s Tennis Team to Participate in ITA Kick-Off Weekend in January

June 11, 2010

SKILLMAN, NJ – The third annual Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Men’s Kick-Off Weekend Draft was held as teams selected which route they would take to get to the 2011 ITA National Team Indoor Championships.

The ITA Kick-Off Weekend, held January 28-31, 2011 features 15 host sites with four teams at each site vying to advance to the Team Indoor Championships. The 15 schools that win both of their matches at these events will be invited to play in the Feb. 18-21 ITA National Team Indoor Championships in Seattle, WA, hosted by the University of Washington.

The No. 1 team at each site will face the No. 4 team. The No. 2 team will face the No. 3 team. Two matches are guaranteed – the winners/losers will play the following day.

Clemson will play USC Upstate in the first round at Knoxville, TN. The Tigers are seeded third and USC Upstate is seeded second. Tennessee will play San Diego. The two winners and losers will meet the next day in Knoxville, TN.

“We are looking forward to participating in the ITA Kick-Off Regional at the University of Tennessee,” said Clemson Head Coach Chuck McCuen. “This is the toughest team tournament of the year being there is no automatic bid for conference winners. We are playing USC-Upstate in the first round, and are looking forward to what will be a tough match. Upstate won their regular season conference title this year on the way to having probably their best season in school history. We beat them this year at Clemson in a 5-2 match, but know they will be well coached and ready for us.”
