Clemson Men’s Tennis Team Posts 1-2 Mark In Miami Invitational

MIAMI, Fla. – The 33rd-ranked Clemson men’s tennis team defeated 35th-ranked Michigan 5-2, but fell to 40th-ranked Harvard 5-2 and to 22nd-ranked Miami 6-1 in the Miami Invitational over the past weekend. Clemson now has a 3-5 overall record for the season. All eight of the Tigers’ matches this season have come against nationally ranked opponents.

In Clemson’s win over Michigan, the Tigers swept the three doubles matches and won four out of the six singles matches. Josh Goffi, Micah Thompson, Darren Knight, and Joe Hopke each picked up singles wins for Clemson while competing in the number one, two, five, and six positions respectively. In doubles, Goffi and Gojanovic won in the number-one position, Knight and Eric Cohn won in the number-two slot, and Lee Taylor Walker and Jamin Thompson won their match in the number-three position.

In the match against Miami, the Hurricanes won two out of three doubles matches and five out of six singles matches. Brad Emendorfer picked up the lone singles victory for the Tigers while competing in the number-five position.

Against Harvard, Clemson dropped two out of three doubles matches and four out of six singles matches. In doubles, the Clemson pair of Knight and Cohn registered their third win of the weekend by winning their match in the number-two position. In singles, Brad Emendorfer and Joe Hopke were victorious for the Tigers’ while competing in the number-four and number-six positions respectively. Emendorfer and Hopke each won two singles matches over the weekend.

Clemson’s next action will be on Wednesday, March 7 as the Tigers travel to Columbia to take on South Carolina at 2:00 PM.
