Clemson Men’s Tennis Team is Ranked 15th

CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson men’s tennis team is ranked 15th nationally according to the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) poll released Tuesday afternoon. Clemson is coming off of two Atlantic Coast Conference road wins last week. The Tigers defeated Miami 4-3 on Friday and defeated Florida State 4-3 on Sunday. Clemson now has a 13-2 record overall, and a 2-0 mark in the ACC. The Tigers have won eight of their last nine matches. The 15th-place ranking is the highest the Tigers have been ranked since the 2006 squad was ranked 14th on March 28, 2006.Yannick Maden who has played number-one singles and doubles for the Tigers is ranked 41st, and the doubles team of Yannick and his brother Dominique Maden are ranked 11th. The Madens are the first doubles team of brothers to start for the Tigers in 100 years when brothers John and James Erwin (pictured on the left) teamed together for two years.  In 1913, John and James Erwin won the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association (SIAA) Doubles Championship after James won the SIAA Singles Title. The SIAA composed of many of today’s Southeastern Conference and Atlantic Coast Conference teams. The Erwin brothers were from Spartanburg, SC and were also stars on the Clemson basketball team. James still holds the single-game scoring record with 58 points in a game against Butler Guards on February 9, 1912. Clemson will play host to N.C. State on Friday, March 22 at 2:30 p.m. in an Atlantic Coast Conference contest at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center on the Tiger campus.
