Clemson Men’s Tennis Team Falls to Wake Forest in ACC Tournament

CARY, NC – Wake Forest, seeded seventh, defeated 10th-seeded Clemson 4-0 in the first round of the 53rd Annual Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Tennis Tournament at Cary Tennis Park in Cary, NC Thursday afternoon.

Wake Forest, ranked 32nd nationally, improves its record to 13-10 overall, while Clemson falls to 15-12 overall this season. The Tigers are ranked 59th nationally. Wake Forest advances to the quarterfinal round and will play second-seeded North Carolina Friday.

After winning the doubles point, Wake Forest won three singles matches to secure the win. Wake Forest’s Iain Atkinson defeated Kevin Galloway at number-three singles 6-3, 6-1 to take a 2-0 lead.

The Demon Deacons’ David Hopkins defeated Derek DiFazio of Clemson 6-1, 7-6 (8-6). The remaining singles matches were halted due to the match being clinched.
