Clemson Men’s Tennis Team Defeats East Carolina and Liberty

CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson men’s tennis team defeated East Carolina (7-0) and Liberty (7-0) on Saturday at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center. With the wins, the Tigers, ranked 33rd in the latest ITA poll, improve to 5-0 on the season.

Against the Pirates, Nathan Thompson of Clemson defeated Charl Meyer by default at number one singles. At flight two singles, the Tigers’ Sander Koning won a three-set decision over Brad Sullivan (3-6, 6-0, 7-6). Jarmaine Jenkins won at number three singles over ECU’s Paulo Baumer by a score of 6-0, 6-2. Clemson’s Ash Misquith won a 6-0, 6-4 decision over Nick Rose at flight four singles. At number five singles, Tiger Damiisa Robinson defeated Edward Cooper by a score of 6-0, 7-6(7-2). John Boetsch of Clemson won at six singles, downing Felipe Fonseca, 6-2, 6-3.

In doubles action against East Carolina, Nathan Thompson and Jenkins defeated Meyer and Sullivan, 8-6 at flight one. Robinson and Misquith won an 8-5 decision over Rose and Baumer at two doubles. At number three doubles, Clemson’s Koning and Boetsch were victorious over Fonseca and Cooper by a score of 8-4.

Against Liberty, Nathan Thompson won a 6-1, 6-2 decision over Ricardo Shinozaki at flight one singles. Clemson’s Koning was victorious over Luiz Rino at number two singles by a score of 6-4, 6-1. At flight three, the Tigers’ Jenkins defeated Pritt Pihl by a score of 6-1, 7-6(8-6). Boetsch of Clemson won the number four singles match by a score of 6-3, 6-1 over Braen Aneiros. At five singles, Robinson downed Kenan Bell of Liberty, 6-2, 6-1. Clemson’s Ash Misquith defeated Joel Moylan at flight six singles (6-2, 6-2).

At number one doubles against the Flames, Nathan Thompson and Jenkins defeated Shinozaki and Rino, 8-2. Koning and Boetsch won an 8-5 decision at flight two over Bell and Pihl. The Tigers duo of Robinson and Misquith took an 8-6 victory over Aneiros and Ernesto Malagrino at the number three spot.

The Tigers will return to action on Feb. 8 at the Harvard Classic in Boston, MA.
