Clemson Men’s Tennis Sweeps Troy State and Gardner-Webb

CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson men’s tennis team swept Troy State (7-0) and Gardner-Webb (7-0) on Friday at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center. The Tigers are now 2-0 on the season.

Against Troy State, Nathan Thompson downed Pablo Martinez at number one singles 6-4, 7-5. At number two singles, Sander Koning defeated Rolando Vargas 6-4, 7-5. Jarmaine Jenkins earned a victory at flight three singles defeating David Quinceno 6-3, 6-2. At number four singles, Ash Misquith defeated Robert Van Swelm 6-2, 6-7, 6-4. Damiisa Robinson posted a victory at number five singles against Emir Basic 6-3, 6-2. At number six singles Brett Twente downed Andrew Waters 6-2, 6-1.

In doubles play against Troy State, Nathan Thompson and Jenkins defeated Martinez and Vargas at number one doubles 9-8 (11-9). At flight two doubles Misquith and Robinson earned a victory over Van Swelm and Basic 8-5. Koning and Twente defeated Quinceno and Clayton Langheim by a score of 8-3 to win number three doubles.

Against Gardner-Webb, Nathan Thompson posted a win at number one singles, defeating Ilija Sekulic 6-3, 6-0. At number two singles, Micah Thompson downed Kevin Phillip 6-3, 6-4. Koning won at number three singles, defeating Phil Skelton 6-3, 6-1. At number four singles Jenkins defeated Bryan Edmonds 6-0, 6-2. Robinson won a 6-3, 6-0 decision over Michael Osbourne at number five singles. At number six singles, Misquith defeated Daniel Abraho 6-0, 6-0.

In doubles action against Gardner-Webb, Nathan Thompson and Jenkins defeated Sekulic and Skelton at number one doubles 8-6. At number two doubles Robinson and Misquith defeated Phillip and Osbourne 8-1. Clemson’s Koning and Twente downed Abraho and Edmonds by a score of 8-0 to win number three doubles.

The Tigers will return to action Sunday, Jan. 26 as they play host to 6th-ranked Georgia at 4:00 p.m. at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center.
