Clemson Men’s Tennis Falls To Fresno State

FRESNO, Calif. – Fresno State came back from losing the doubles point to win five of six singles matches to defeat No. 32 Clemson 5-2 at the Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center in Fresno CA, Tuesday.

The win improves the Bulldogs to 18-3 on the season. Clemson falls to 12-8 this season.

The Tigers started the match by taking two of the three doubles points for an early 1-0 lead. But despite dropping their first doubles point in 12 matches dating back to Feb. 11 against Illinois, the Bulldogs battled back. No. 54 Rob Cheyne picked up FS’s first point,defeating Clemson’s Luis Garcia 6-1, 6-1. The win was Cheyne’s 13th consecutive victory and ran his overall record to 28-2 (19-1 dual). He has not lost since falling 6-3, 6-4 to Gustavo Pousette of Kentucky on Feb. 10.

Fresno State never let up from there. At No. 1, No. 32 Olivier Le Jeune took out No. 47 Josh Goffi 6-4, 6-4. For Le Jeune, it was his 26th victory of the year and ran his dual match record to 17-1. No. 49

Peter Luczak picked up a big win at No. 2, defeating No. 45 Tom Boniecki 6-3, 7-6 (5). Also victorious for the Bulldogs were Andy Scorteanu, who defeated Brad Emendorfer 6-4, 6-4 at No. 3, and David Mullins, who won against Micah Thompson 6-1, 5-7, 6-4 at No. 5.
