Clemson Men’s Tennis Defeats No. 72 UC-Irvine in a 4-3 Thriller

Irvine, Calif. — The 26th-ranked Clemson Tigers defeated No. 72 UC-Irvine 4-3 at Anteater Tennis Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The UC-Irvine’s sixth-ranked doubles team of Jon Endrikat and Brian Morton defeated the 17th ranked doubles team of Nathan Thompson and Jarmaine Jenkins 8-5 in the number one doubles match. The Tigers responded when Brett Twente and Ash Misquith and Goran Sterijovski pulled off the 9-8 win in a tiebreaker (7-4) over Zoran Korac and Ryusuke Kashiwabara, claiming the doubles point for the Tigers.

In singles, 31st ranked Nathan Thompson was defeated by Endrikat 7-5, 6-2 in number one singles. Sophomore Jarmaine Jenkins and senior Goran Sterijovski each won in straight sets at the number two and three position. John Boetsch clinched the match for the Tigers, coming from down one set to defeat Morton 3-6, 6-2, 6-3.

With the victory, Clemson improves to 3-0 on the season. The Tigers will return to action on Tuesday afternoon as they visit seventh-ranked UCLA at 1:30 p.m. local time.
