Clemson Men’s Cross Country Finishes Seventh At ACC Championships

CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson men’s cross country team finished seventh at the 47th annual ACC Men’s Cross Country Championships held Saturday morning on the Clemson Cross Country Course at Jervey Meadows. The NC State men’s cross country team captured its ninth ACC title with a low score of 26 points. The Wolfpack was followed by Wake Forest who finished second with 45 points. Duke was third with 94 points, and Virginia finished fourth with 114 points. Florida State, Georgia Tech and Clemson were fifth, sixth and seventh with scores of 134, 153 and 187, respectively. North Carolina and Maryland registered 221 and 274 points.

NC State’s top five runners finished in the top nine, and the Wolfpack was paced by Chad Pearson who finished second. Wake Forest finished with three runners in the top 10, including the 2001 ACC Individual Champion Nathan Sisco, who crossed the finish line in 24:23.5. Rounding out the all-conference team was Duke’s Sean Kelly and Florida State’s Joep Tigchelaar, who was the ACC Freshman of the Year with a time of 24:36.3.

Clemson was led by Derrick Wyatt who covered the course in 25:06.5 to finish 14th. Matt Gunn finished 41st in 26:05, and Jason Meany was 43rd in a time of 26:09. Travis Alexander posted a 45th place finish in 26:13.2, while Matt Pimentel and Mike Barton were 54th and 55th in 26:41.3 and 26:43.1, respectively. Scott Shaw finished 60th in 27:10.6, and David Smith was 64th in 27:30.4.

The Tigers will return to action on Saturday, Nov. 10, at the NCAA Southeast Region meet in Greenville, SC.
