COLLEGE PARK, MD – The Clemson men’s cross country team finished fourth at the 2004 ACC Championships held Saturday and hosted by the University of Maryland. The Tigers tallied 87 team points, only two off third-place Virginia’s 85-point total. NC State won the meet with 47 points, edging Florida State by one point (48). Clemson was led by Itay Magidi and Derrick Wyatt, who each earned all-conference honors. The Tigers’ 87 point total was the lowest by a Clemson team at the conference meet since they finished third at the 1997 ACC Championships with 75 points.
Magidi placed fourth overall, completing the 8K race in 24:44.5 to record the highest finish by a Tiger harrier since 2002 when Jason Meany also finished fourth. Wyatt brought home All-ACC honors with his 10th-place finish and time of 24:59.6. This is the first time Clemson has had two or more all-conference performers since the 1997 meet when Jason Reckner and Joe Gibson finished fifth and ninth, respectively.
Matt Clark was the Tigers’ number-three runner, finishing 18th overall with a time of 25:26.9. Ryan Fenton turned in a time of 25:33.4 in his final ACC cross country race to place 22nd, while freshmen Sean Reilly and Brian Soder recorded times of 26:07.2 and 26:10.0 to finish 33rd and 34th, respectively. Jim Wahl crossed the finish line in 26:33.9 to place 45th, and Matt Pimentel posted a time of 26:34.4 to place 47th.
