Clemson Men’s Basketball Sixth in Sagarin Ratings and 16th in RPI

Dec. 7, 2006

The Clemson men’s basketball team is listed sixth in the Sagarin computer ratings and 16th in the RPI, as of Thursday. The Tigers, now 10-0 on the season, defeated Wofford 90-66 on Tuesday night. Clemson will not play again until December 19, when the Tigers host Georgia Southern.

Clemson is the only remaining undefeated team in the Atlantic Coast Conference and one of just 14 in the entire country. The Tigers are tied for the most wins in the country at this point of the season with Oklahoma State (10-0).

The Tigers won three games in three consecutive days to claim the Cox Communications Classic to start the season. Included in that victory total was a 74-70 win over host Old Dominion, who ranks 68th in the RPI and 88th in the Sagarin ratings. Clemson also claimed a 69-66 win over Mississippi State at home earlier this season. The Bulldogs rank 41st in the Sagarin ratings and 90th in the RPI.

Last week, the Tigers claimed consecutive road wins at Minnesota and South Carolina by more than 20 points. It marked the first time since the 1949-50 season that any Clemson squad achieved that feat. The Gamecocks rank 76th in the RPI.

Clemson leads the ACC in scoring margin (+18.8) and steals (9.4 per game), and ranks second in scoring defense (58.9), turnover margin (+3.30), offensive rebounds (15.7 per game) and three-point goals per game (7.4).
