FAYETTEVILLE, AR – The Clemson men’s track and field team competed at the Tyson Invitational held this weekend at the University of Arkansas. The Tigers’ 4x400m relay team of Jacey Harper, Dwight Thomas, Otto Spain and Ato Modibo provisionally qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships with a time of 3:09.17. Jason Meany recorded a season-best time of 14:43.53 in the 5000m and Brett Varner posted another season-best mark in the weight throw (58’5.25″). Varner’s mark ranks third on Clemson’s all-time best list.
Meany’s time in the 5000m placed him fifth in the field, and the 1600m relay team finished fourth in that event. Todd Matthews recorded a time of 7.93 in the finals of the 60m hurdles to finish fifth in the event. In the field events, Doug Ameigh finished fourth, clearing 6’10.75″, and Varner’s mark placed him fourth in the weight throw. Colt Hodge posted a mark of 51’11” in the weight throw for fifth place.
The Clemson men’s track and field team will return to action Feb. 9 at the Virginia Tech Challenge in Blacksburg, VA.
