Clemson Is 16th In National All-Sports Standings

March 26, 2001

CLEMSON, SC – Clemson is in 16th place in the Division I Sears Directors’ Cup, presented by the nation’s athletics directors. The Sears Directors’ Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. It is administered by NACDA and sponsored by Sears, Roebuck and Co.

During the winter, Clemson picked up points in women’s indoor track with a third place finish and men’s track with a 20th place finish. These standings do not include women’s basketball and Clemson should receive points in this sport as the Lady Tigers finished in the Top 25 and advanced to the NCAA Tournament.

Earlier in the year, Clemson earned points for a 15th place finish in the USA Today football poll, a eighth place finish in men’s soccer, and a fifth place finish in women’s soccer. Clemson should receive points in several spring sports including baseball, men’s track, women’s track and golf. These sports are all currently ranked in the nation’s top 15.

Clemson’s best finish was 16th in the Sears Directors’ Cup, the first year of the trophy.
