Clemson Improves to Sixth at Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate

CLEMSON, S.C. — Clemson had a five-shot improvement in its team score and moved up two places in the team standing during second round play at the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate in Alpharetta, Ga.

Andrew Swanson led the Tigers with a second round 67, a round that included a season best six birdies and just one bogey. He improved nine strokes in his score from the first round and jumped up 42 places in the medalist standings. He got off to a great start with all six birdies within his first 13 holes. He is in 13th place individually entering Sunday’s final round.

Colin Salema also shot under par in the second round with a 71. He played the first 14 holes in four-under-par before a double bogey on the 16th hole slowed him down. He is in 40th place entering the final round with a 146 total.

Clemson’s second best golfer for the tournament is freshman Rich Wills, who is tied for 13th place with Swanson. Wilis had a 74 in the second round to go with his opening round 69. Wills shot four over par 40 on the front nine, but finished strong with his first career eagle on the par five 18th hole.

Kian Rose had a 73 on Saturday after 71 in the opening round. Rose is Clemson’s top golfer so far this season with 71.50 average. He stands in 26th place entering Sunday with a 144 total, even par.

Lucas Augustsson had a 75 for the second straight round. He had a triple bogey on the fourth hole and played the other 17 holes at even par.

Clemson improved from a 290 opening round to 285 in the second round on Saturday to move into sixth place in the 14-team tournament that includes eight of the top 25 teams in the nation.

UCLA has the team lead at 16-under par score of 560 for the first 36 holes, one shot ahead of Virginia. Duke is third at -11, 565 and Charlotte is fourth at 568. Southern California is fifth at three-under par 573 and Clemson is tied for sixth with Vanderbilt at one-under-par 575 for the first two rounds.
