Clemson Graduates 50 Student-Athletes

CLEMSON, SC – Sixty-three Clemson student-athletes received undergraduate degrees during graduation ceremonies at Littlejohn Coliseum on Friday. Clemson President James Barker, a former Clemson student-athlete with the Clemson track program, presided over the ceremonies.

The Clemson football team had 13 current and former players receive degrees on Friday, more than any other sport. The list includes thee student-athletes who will be members of the 2010 Clemson team, Mike Wade, Richard Jackson and Terrance Ashe. The former Tiger gridders who received degrees included Derrick Hamilton, who is second to C.J. Spiller in Clemson history in career all-purpose yards, and Jamaal Fudge, who has played four years in the NFL.

Other former Tigers who received degrees on Friday included 2009 seniors Michael Palmer, a first-team All-ACC tight end for the 2009 Tigers Rendrick Taylor, Jeremy Campbell, and Kevin Alexander. Sixteen of the 18 seniors on the 2009 Clemson team now have degrees, 89 percent. Willy Korn, who still has two more years of eligibility and will play the 2010 season at Marshall, also received his undergraduate degree on Friday.

Clemson’s ACC Championship women’s track program had eight graduates on Friday, second among Clemson sports, while the women’s swimming team had seven. The list of women’s swimmers who earned degrees on Friday included Katina Obas, who also received an ACC Postgraduate scholarship this past April.

Four members of the Clemson baseball team received degrees on Friday. Those players are starting outfielder Wilson Boyd, starting second baseman Mike Freeman, relief pitcher Josh Thrailkill and pitcher Justin Sarratt. The Clemson baseball team faces Maryland in a key three-game series in College Park starting Friday night.

Other prominent Clemson athletes who graduated on Friday include All-ACC guard Lele Hardy, Clemson’s career leader in steals and a top 10 scorer in Clemson women’s basketball history, All-ACC volleyball player Lia Proctor, and three members of Clemson’s 2009 National Championship 4+ rowing team, Meredith Razzolini, Allison Colberg and Callen Erdeky.
