Clemson, SC – The Clemson men’s golf team is ranked third in the nation by the Precept Division I Coach’s poll. The latest ranking was released Thursday. Clemson has been in the top 10 in the nation in every poll this year and has been in the top five in every poll so far in the Spring season.
Earlier this week, Clemson was ranked second in the nation by the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings. Clemson has been ranked second in the nation in that poll all spring. ACC teams hold down the top three spots in both polls. Georgia Tech is number-one in both polls, while Wake Forest in second in the Coach’s poll and third by Golfweek/Sagarin.
In the individual rankings, Clemson junior D.J. Trahan is rated the third best college golfer in the nation by Golfweek. He has a rating of 68.73, just behind Troy Matteson of Georgia Tech (68.39) and Camilo Villegas of Florida (68.54). Clemson sophomore Gregg Jones has jumped to 15th in the nation in the latest individual rankings. He has a 70.27 rating. Jones is ranked fifth among ACC players in the ranking.
Clemson will return to the links this weekend at the Chris Schenkel Invitational in Statesboro, GA. The field will play 36 holes on Saturday and 18 on Sunday. The Tigers finished third at the event last year, second in 2000 and first in 1999.
