Clemson Finishes First Day at ACC Championships

CHAPEL HILL, NC – The Clemson women’s swimming team finished the first day in sixth place at the ACC Championships in Chapel Hill, NC. The women competed in the 200 medley relay and the 800 free relay to get the ACC Championships underway.

The Championships started at 6:00 p.m. with the 200 medley relay where the Tigers’ group of Kelli Kyle, Katrina Obas, Maddie Tarantolo and Meg Anderson took fourth with a season best 1:40.85, an NCAA-B time, which puts them second in Clemson history.

Sophomore Kelli Kyle led the group off with a 24.98 backstroke split, senior Katrina Obas then followed with a 29.26 in the breaststroke to set up sophomore Maddie Tarantolo who put in a 24.04 butterfly split and then freshman Meg Anderson anchored the relay with a 22.57 freestyle split.

The Tigers then competed in the 800 free relay to finish the first day. The group of Joanna Rakoczy, Kristen Redmond, Meg Anderson and Tori Cervone took seventh with a 7:20.16 to earn Clemson’s second NCAA B time in two events.

Senior Joanna Rakoczy led the relay off with a 1:50.69, freshman Kristen Redmond then swam a 1:49.36, freshman Meg Anderson put in a 1:49.96 and freshman Tori Cervone anchored with a 1:50.15.

Clemson finished the day sixth with 54 points.

Thursday Schedule of Events:

The second day of competition will begin Thursday morning with the preliminaries of the 500 free, 200 IM and the 50 free. Finals for those events, along with the 200 free relay, will begin at 7:00 p.m. Then the diving will start with the men’s three-meter prelims at 1:00 p.m. and the finals at 5:00 p.m. while the women will compete on the one-meter with the prelims at 2:45 and the finals at 7:00.
