Clemson, SC- Senior Luke Hopkins fired a one under par 71 in the final round to finish 13th individually and help Clemson to an 11th place team finish at the Isleworth Collegiate in Windermere, FL on Tuesday. Clemson finished in 11th place in the 15-team tournament that included seven of the top 10 teams in the nation.
Number-one ranked Oklahoma State finished first with a score of 881, while Florida was second at 886 and Stanford was third at 888. Clemson finished ahead of second-ranked Arizona State and third-ranked Washington at the event that ended the fall schedule for the Tigers.
Hopkins was one of just five players in the 75-player field of the nation’s top golfers to shoot under par on Tuesday at the difficult par 72 Isleworth Course. The native of Greer, SC had five birdies and four bogeys on the day, but he played the last four holes in two under par. It was the only under par round by a Clemson golfer over the three days on the course that had an average score of 76 for all the players combined over the 54 holes. Hopkins finished in a tie for 13th overall with a three-day score of 221, five over par. He had rounds of 76-74-71 and had Clemson’s top round two of the three days.
Hopkins was the only Tiger to finish in the top 25. Freshman Corbin Mills, who was playing in his first tournament as a Tiger, had a 229 score for the three days to finish in 39th place. He had a 77 on Tuesday after rounds of 77 and 75 the previous two days.
Senior Ben Martin shot a four over par 76 on Tuesday, a six stroke improvement from his previous round. He played his final seven holes in one under par to finish strong. He finished at 233 for the event. Jacob Burger shot an 80 on Tuesday and finished in a tie for 56th place with a 233 score. Freshman Crawford Reeves had an 80 on Tuesday as well and finished in 59th place at 234.
