Clemson Falls 3-1 to Florida State in Volleyball

Clemson volleyball lost to Florida State 3-1 on Saturday (28-30, 32-30, 29-31, 25-30) in ACC action from Jervey Gym. The win improved the Seminoles to 14-9, 6-6 in ACC play. The Tigers dropped to 16-10, 6-6 in the conference.

Leslie Finn had 27 kills to lead the Tiger offense, meaning she had 51 in two matches over the weekend for Clemson. She passed Julie Rodriguez for third all-time in Clemson career kills. She also had 11 digs. Lori Ashton had 18 kills and hit .359, in addition to six total blocks. Meghan Steiner came in during the second game and ended up contributing five total blocks.

For Florida State, five players had double figures in kills. Leading them was Kristen Rust with 20. Andrea Santos had 12, but also hit .478. Libero Summer Weissing had 21 digs to lead the Seminoles.

The first game saw Florida State win five straight points after trailing 20-17. After that, the Seminoles held on for the victory. Ashton’s seven kills and two blocks led Clemson to a 32-30 victory in game two.

In the third game, Florida State scored the final three points of the game to win. The Seminoles came back from several deficits in the third game. The final game was marked by the Seminoles’ play down the stretch. Trailing 21-20, Florida State scored seven of the next nine points to take the 27-23 lead and eventually the match.

The Tigers return to the court Tuesday, November 2 for a home non-conference match versus Georgia State. First serve is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
