Clemson Drops Match at Georgia 4-3

Athens, GA –The No. 26 Clemson Men’s Tennis Team dropped a 4-3 decision to the 24th-ranked Georgia Bulldogs on Wednesday afternoon. The matches were played on the Lindsey Hopkins Courts after being moved inside due to winter weather.

Clemson’s number one doubles pair of Nathan Thompson and Jarmaine Jenkins fell to the fifth-ranked pair of Bo Hodge and John Isner 8-5 at flight one. Clemson found victory in the number two and three matches as Clement Reix defeated Strahinja Bobusic and Ricardo Gonzalez 8-2 at the number two position, while Clemson’s number two Ryan Young and Goran Sterijovski beat out the tandem of Matias Ormaza and Matic Omerzel in a close match that ended 9-7, clinching the doubles point for Clemson.

Thompson fell to fourth ranked Bo Hodge 6-1, 6-4 in the number one singles match. Georgia also won the number two and three matches as Ormaza beat out Jarmaine Jenkins 6-7(3), 6-2, 6-2.

Boetsch outlasted Bobusic in the number three singles match 3-6, 6-3, 6-1, and Robbye Poole continued his strong play by downing Gonzalez 6-4, 6-4 at number six singles. Omerzel clinched the match for Georgia as he defeated Young in the number five singles match 6-4, 6-4.

With the loss, Clemson falls to 13-3 on the season. The Tigers return to action this weekend as they travel to Mobile, Alabama to face South Alabama and Southern on Saturday.
