CLEMSON, S.C. – Freshman Taylor Hosendove poured in 14 points as the Clemson women’s basketball team topped Wingate, 80-48, in the Tigers final exhibition game of the preseason. Clemson shot 31-for-62 from the field with four different Tigers tallying double-digit outings.
It was a team effort on Friday as all 11 Clemson players tallied a point in the victory, led by Hosendove and Simone Westbrook, who posted 14 and 11 points, respectively. The Clemson bench accounted for 36 of the Tigers 80 points against Wingate.
In the backcourt, the Clemson defense came to play, forcing 35 turnovers and notching 18 steals on the night. The Tigers edged the Bulldogs in rebounds 41-39 and pulled down 17 offensive boards.
Junior Kobi Thornton set the tone early in the first, making a steal and shooting a quick outlet pass down the court to a waiting Danielle Edwards, who converted the fast break layup. The Bulldogs responded with a pair of field goals and a free throw to take a 5-4 lead, but that would be the only lead for Wingate on the night.
Aliyah Collier kicked off the second quarter with a deep 3-pointer, sparking a 7-0 run for the Tigers. With another 7-0 run later in the frame, Clemson outscored the Bulldogs 24-12 in the second quarter to take a 42-22 lead into the locker room at halftime.

It was a back-and-forth affair in the third quarter as the teams traded baskets to start the second half. At the 2:00 mark, Edwards drew a foul on a layup, putting her at the charity stripe for the 3-point play. The Tigers followed up with forced turnovers on back-to-back Wingate possessions to build a 35-point lead with 10 minutes to go in the contest.
Clemson closed out the game with a 20-point fourth quarter, shooting 9-of-14 from the field with baskets from eight different players.
